Setting Your Hormone Goals

The reason we need to have goals is to not fill an empty space or slot, it is not about lacking something, like a great body,

it has to do with direction. It has to do with keeping score.

If you have been following me for any given time, you have probably heard me say that it’s not about perfection. It’s all about progress.

Yes, it’s all about the journey, not the destination.

Winning the game is cool, but playing the game is even cooler.

Since I am talking about playing games, imagine that you are playing in one.

Imagine it is the seventh game of the world basketball championship.

Your team is losing by one point. All you need is one basket to win the game.

There are five seconds left in the game and you receive the ball at the opposite end of the court.

You dribble and run and dodge the defenders.

There are now four-seconds left and the ball hits your foot and you have to run it down.

There are now three-seconds left.

You look at the basket and there are five players in your way.

There are now two-seconds left and you dribble and spin and work your way closer to the basket.

Now there is only one-second left and you know you have to shoot the ball.

You spring skyward and time slows down as your body soars upward…

AND THERE IS NO HOOP!

How can you play the game of basketball without hoops, without goals, without keeping score?

The same goes for your health.

It’s fun playing the game, but, you will get bored if there is no score.

That’s like going on a diet and never weighing, it may work,

but how would you really know…

The question my clients always ask me is ‘how do I keep score of my health.’

I mean, there is not a health meter we can attach to our finger.

There is a measurement that comes in handy. It’s actually a great indicator of how healthy we are and how long we may live.

The best health score to keep is the size of your waist.

Science tells us that we live as long as our waist is small.

There are many reasons associated with this.

One has to do with our internal chemistry.

The more harmonized our internal chemistry, the less abdominal fat we will have.

Science tells us that the more abdominal fat we have the more likely we will eventually be diagnosed with a chronic disease.

Chronic diseases include cancer, diabetes, heart disease, strokes, Alzheimer’s, hormonal Disruption and even obesity.

These are the diseases that cut our lives short.

YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL SHOULD BE

THE CORRECT WAIST SIZE FOR YOUR HEIGHT

There have been numerous published studies that associate longevity of life with the size of your waist.

If you compile all of these studies together, a waist to height ratio can be determined to give you the best chance to live long and finish strong.

The research indicates that a woman should have a 45 percent waist to height ratio and a man should have a 48 percent waist to height ratio.

Below are examples of what you should be striving for when it comes to your ultimate health goals.

These measurements are to be taken at your belly button. Do not use a “Texas” measurement.

A Texas measurement is one taken by that ‘good ol’ boy’ with a drawl who says,

“I wear the same size pants I did in high school” as his belly jiggles over the unseen belt buckle he won at a local rodeo in 1977.

Let’s take a look at the IDEAL waist sizes!

WOMEN SHOULD STRIVE FOR A 45% WAIST TO HEIGHT RATIO

If you are 4’ 10” your ideal waist should be 26”

If you are 5’ 0” your ideal waist should be 27”

If you are 5’ 2” your ideal waist should be 28”

If you are 5’ 4” your ideal waist should be 29”

If you are 5’ 6” your ideal waist should be 30”

If you are 5’ 8” your ideal waist should be 31”

If you are 5’ 10” your ideal waist should be 32”

If you are 6’ 0” your ideal waist should be 33”

To be transparent, if you go and google the best measurement, you are going to find a hip to waist ratio.

For women, it is supposed to a .7. That’s what Marilyn Monroe had!

The numbers I have above are more realistic goals, especially for women in the ‘third act’ of their lives.

MEN SHOULD STRIVE FOR A 50% WAIST TO HEIGHT RATIO

If you are 5’ 0” your ideal waist should be 30”

If you are 5’ 2” your ideal waist should be 31”

If you are 5’ 4” your ideal waist should be 32”

If you are 5’ 6” your ideal waist should be 33”

If you are 5’ 8” your ideal waist should be 34”

If you are 5’ 10” your ideal waist should be 35”

If you are 6’ 0” your ideal waist should be 36”

If you are 6’ 2” your ideal waist should be 37”

If you are 6’ 4” your ideal waist should be 38”

Write your goals down!

Now you know what your waist should be, but that doesn’t necessarily need to be your immediate goal.

Your goal could be to knock off 1 inch from your waist at a time.

It is much easier to reach your goals when you place more attainable immediate goals.

When it comes to goals take smaller bites at first. It’s all about baby steps.

Since nearly all of us pay attention to weight more than our waist, make sure to place both goals in your GPS.

Hey, Siri, in six months

My Weight is ________

But More Importantly,

My Waist is ________

Now go write it on your mirror and tell your cleaning people not to touch it.

Ok, then tell yourself…

You have to place this goal out into the universe.

Please, text me these numbers ASAP.

I don’t mind…

Doc, I weigh…and want to weigh… in 3 or 6 months.

Also, include your waist and height measurements.

I know there are other issues besides weight.
