Sex and Menopause… Bah Humbug!

sex and menopauseAs we consult dozens of menopausal clients each week, the S-word doesn’t come up as often as you would think.

But when it does, oh boy…

The truth is that menopause and sexual dysfunction go hand in hand.

The primary Menopausal Sexual Dysfunctions include:

  • Vaginal Dryness,
  • Painful Intercourse,
  • Reduced Flexibility Causing Pelvic Joint Pain,
  • Major Reductions In Sexual Activity,
  • Low Libido,
  • No Libido,
  • Orgasm Dysfunction.

One study’s results published on November 1, 2017, https://goo.gl/2GhAeR

found that even though these sexual dysfunctions exist there were some actual positive findings.

“Cough!”

Researchers found that the study participants were prompted to try new adaptive behaviors

They had to adapt to maintain their overall sexual satisfaction.

Which included:

  • Using Lubricants,
  • Different Sexual Activities and Positions
  • Changing Priorities, by putting greater focus on emotional sex instead of physical sex

Like we didn’t know that women are great adapters.

We have found that most of these changes occur due to hormonal imbalances.

When Hormones are balanced many of these symptoms will lessen and even some may completely dissipate.

If you are suffering from Menopausal Sexual Dysfunction.

Hormones and Beef!

hormone diet

If you are eating the wrong kind of beef, you are going to get sick!

There are two types of beef!

One is GOOD!

One is BAD!

While you are on The HOPE Protocol you are allowed to eat beef one to two times a week.

Women should only eat it once a week.

Men can eat it twice a week.

The men’s lobby has more power. HaHa!

Just kidding…

It has to do with size.

The one caveat is that it must be from pasture raised grass fed cows.

If the beef is not grass-fed, YOU SHOULDN’T EAT IT!

Grass Fed pasture-raised beef is good for you.

Corn fed pen raised beef is bad for you.

Even if it’s from organic corn.

Conventional-fed and raised beef will make you inflame.

Inflammation is the primary cause of hormonal disruption.

Conventional beef is also filled with bovine estrogens to make the cows fat.

You are most likely estrogen dominant, you don’t need any of that!

Conventional beef is also filled with medications, especially antibiotics, that will disrupt your gut’s bacterial flora.

An imbalance in the gut’s bacteria is the core of chronic inflammation.

Organic grain-fed beef is not acceptable.

Oh, by the way!

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A COW IN A CORNFIELD?

COWS EAT GRASS!

Many of you will think that pasture raised grass fed beef is a delicacy.

That’s the way our grandparents ate it.

Did you know that conventional factory raised beef’s fat is completely different than grass fed?

Did you know that conventional beef is full of mycotoxins?

Mycotoxins are very nasty biotoxins formed by a mold in cattle food and meat processing.

Feeding cattle junk food makes them a junk food.

Cows are called ruminant animals because they are supposed to eat grass.

Instead, they are fed:

• Grains

• Stale Bread

• Cereal

• Chicken Feathers

• City Garbage

The goal of The HOPE Protocol’s Diets…

Is to consume foods that contain the highest quantity and highest quality of nutrients with the least amount of toxins.

Grass-fed pasture-raised beef contains more antioxidants, omega-3’s, CLA, TVA, trace minerals, and vitamins than conventional meat.

A study done in 2006 compared cattle fed with grain, feedlot and grass fed.

The grass-fed cows had much more of the super fats, omega-3’s and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).

Cows that were fed grain for 80 days had much lower omega-3 and CLA content.

The longer the animals were fed grains, the lower the quality of the fat.

The omega-3 quantity in grain-fed meat was so low, it did not even register as a source of these 2 super fats.

The feedlot cattle had even lower levels than the grain fed.

In 2008, another study compared the nutrient content of the grass-fed beef to grain-fed beef.

Grass-fed beef was found to have higher levels of:

• Carotenoids and trace nutrients.

• Saturated fat.

• CLA and TVA (super fats)

• Omega-3’s.

Grass-fed and grain-fed meat had the same amount of omega-6 fats, cholesterol, and total polyunsaturated fats.

As you have probably read in another E-class, we want the Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio found within your cells is 1 to 1.

Most Americans have a ratio of 20:1 to 30:1.

I have even seen 50 to 1 ratios more times than I can remember.

Decreasing your red meat intake and eating only pasture raised grass-fed beef will help improve this ratio.

Looking for a reliable source of grass-fed meat that delivers across the U.S.?

We recommend Alderspring Ranch.

Summary:: Inflammation is the primary disrupter of hormones. Conventional beef has numerous toxins within them that will cause inflammation. Grass-fed beef has less and is more micronutrient dense than conventional beef. One is Good! One is Bad!

Omega 3s and Hormones

hormone dietHormone Component: The Mac Sex Hormone Protocol

Omega 3s

The benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. which are abundant in certain fish oils, have long been known to assist with weight loss and hormonal imbalance.
Remember that inflammation the primary hormonal disruptor.

Omega 3s are a wonderful anti-inflammatory.

In the 1950s, it was common to see the children line up and take a spoonful of cod liver oil.
In the 1980s, we learned that Eskimos had incredible coronary health due to their fish-rich diets.
And in 2009, a study published in the Menopause Journal suggested that omega-3 helped reduce the frequency of hot flushes in menopausal women.

When I was traveling around Europe I ran into a doctor.

We were discussing low dose aspirin use for heart health.

He laughed and said that in Europe they used Fish oils.

He could not fathom why we used low dose baby aspirin when omega 3s did such a better job.

Once I did my research I found that the rest of the world knew so much more than we Americans when it comes to natural healthcare.

One of the reasons we resist Omega 3s is because it is a fat.

we have been taught to avoid fats.

We wrongly believe that consuming fat will make us overweight.

Remember sugar makes you fat!

Fat doesn’t make us fat!.

Research has confirmed that omega-3 fatty acids have an excellent effect on chronic diseases, such as:

  • Cancer,
  • Heart Disease
  • Strokes
  • Diabetes
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Hormonal Disruption\
  • Obesity

The reason we need to be concerned about Omega 3s is that our bodies cannot produce essential fatty acids,

That’s why they are called essential.

You have to supply our bodies with Essential Fatty Acids through our diets.

There are 3 types of Essential Fatty Acids.

Omega-3, Omega-6, and Omega-9.

We easily supply our bodies with Omega 6s and 9s through “the Great American Diet.”

Omega-3s are the most important of the three, due to its anti-inflammatory effect.
Omega-3 is usually lacking in our diets.
Omega-3 can greatly help women during menopause and men in andropause.

Menopause and Andropause cause higher than normal triglycerides.

This exposes men and women to an increased risk of coronary heart disease.
Omega-3 offers a triglyceride-lowering effect.
Because of this many of my colleagues recommend hormonally challenged men and women to take a minimum of 1000 mg/day.

Omega 3s will also help with pain and stiffness caused by menopausal and andropausal arthritis.

I prefer to take Omega-3s instead of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Women in perimenopause usually experience strong menstrual pain and cramping.
This pain is caused by a certain type of prostaglandin hormone.

There are 2 types of prostaglandin hormones.

One is good and one is bad.

Menopause and andropause promote the production of the bad prostaglandins.
Omega 3 fatty acids promote the production of the good prostaglandins.
Omega 3s has also been shown to help menopausal women with depression.

Within women, menopausal women have the highest rates of depression.

Omega 3s effectively alleviates the symptoms associated with depression.
Omega 3s have been shown to assist in improving moods and brain function.
Omega 3s also help with osteoporosis.
Menopausal women have the highest rates of osteoporosis due to their drop in estrogen levels.
Omega 3s increase the bone mineral content, thereby decreasing a woman’s risk of developing osteoporosis

Studies have also shown that omega-3s affect the frequency of hot flashes.

Omega 3s have also been shown to assist in another common menopausal symptom, vaginal dryness.
So!
How do you make sure you receive ample supplies of omega-3s?
You know what my answer is going to be.
I prefer that you receive it through your diet.
The best source is fish high in fat, such as tuna, salmon, herring, sardines, and mackerel.
Other sources are seeds, but I prefer you watch out for the estrogenic effects of most seeds,
Seeds are not recommended if you are overweight and/or estrogen dominant.
Other sources are oysters, spinach, and eggs.
Vicky dislikes nearly all seafood.
If seafood is not a staple of your diet…
Then you will most likely need to use a high-quality supplement.
A standard 1000 mg fish oil capsule will usually contain 120 mg docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and 180 mg eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

DHA has long been associated with brain and nervous system health.

EPA has long been associated with heart health, decreasing inflammation and weight management.

These two Omega 3 fatty acids have shown to be most beneficial, especially to hormonally challenged women and men.
Remember you usually get what you pay for when purchasing Omega 3s.
If it smells fishy, it’s probably going rancid or is rancid.

The Omega 3 we recommend can be purchased by clicking on the Amazon link below.

Purification Protocol: The Mac Liver Detox

The Liver Detox Supplement

Let me tell you a story so you understand how important healing your liver is.

One day my wife and I decided to jump in our spa.

We turned on the heater and the jets

And waited for it to heat up.

After about a half an hour, we jumped in to find that it was plenty hot.

But there was no spa in our spa.

The jets were barely working.

My Pool Guy comes on Monday mornings.

When he came I was waiting for him.

I told him how the jets weren’t working.

He told me that it was most likely the filter cartridges were clogged with gunk.

We pulled them out and they were ugly.

We have palm trees around the pool and they had dumped their blossoms into the pool.

The filters were clogged with the palm trees remnants.

We cleaned the filter cartridges.

And Wa LA

The spa was a spa again.

That is how a liver detoxification protocol works.

Up to this point, we have been using old school techniques to detox the liver.

Remember, the liver is very important to hormone balancing.

Remember, you are nothing more than a reflection of your internal chemistry.

We had you using ACV, Bragg’s being our ACV of choice, before breakfast and dinner.

You can use it before lunch too.

We just find it easier if it’s used at the two meals that you are usually home.

We have you drink lemon water, both hot and cold.

We have you use God’s Salt, Turmeric and abstain or at least minimize alcohol intake.

If you are not being as diligent as you should be with The Mac Liver Detox,

Then there is a one-stop supplement that will assist with liver detoxification.

We didn’t have you start with this supplement because

When we first opened our hormone optimization medical clinics,

we used a liver detox supplement on all of our patients.

We soon discovered that many of our clients’ livers were not prepared to handle this strong of a supplement.

They had digestive system side effects.

That is when we developed the more gentle liver protocol that we now recommend.

We prefer to slowly detox the liver with a left jab, left jab, left jab…

That’s what the ACV, Lemon, Turmeric, God’s salt, and alcohol abstaining does.

Then we throw the right hook.

The supplement is the right hook.

When we starting using the supplement, we noticed our hormones seem to improve at a faster rate.
And our weight decreased faster.
We used the liver detox supplement throughout Phase ONE and TWO of The HOPE Protocol.

Now beware.

If you have not done the other more subtle liver detox suggestions.

Taking a liver detox supplement may cause some side effects.

Vicky and I suggest that you start with 1 tablet for 3 days.

If there is no digestive upset.

Then move to 2 a day.

Remember, there is a two-part process to the liver.

Th liver burns the toxins, like artificial sweeteners.

Then if flushes the ash out.

Liver Detoxifiers help with the flush.

If your liver is toxic…

Move slowly into your liver detoxification.

Follow the directions on the bottle of any liver detox supplement.

And always talk to your health professional before taking any supplement.

To investigate the liver detox supplement that we recommend clicking on the Amazon link we have provided.

Setting Your Hormone Goals

The reason we need to have goals is to not fill an empty space or slot, it is not about lacking something, like a great body,

it has to do with direction. It has to do with keeping score.

If you have been following me for any given time, you have probably heard me say that it’s not about perfection. It’s all about progress.

Yes, it’s all about the journey, not the destination.

Winning the game is cool, but playing the game is even cooler.

Since I am talking about playing games, imagine that you are playing in one.

Imagine it is the seventh game of the world basketball championship.

Your team is losing by one point. All you need is one basket to win the game.

There are five seconds left in the game and you receive the ball at the opposite end of the court.

You dribble and run and dodge the defenders.

There are now four-seconds left and the ball hits your foot and you have to run it down.

There are now three-seconds left.

You look at the basket and there are five players in your way.

There are now two-seconds left and you dribble and spin and work your way closer to the basket.

Now there is only one-second left and you know you have to shoot the ball.

You spring skyward and time slows down as your body soars upward…

AND THERE IS NO HOOP!

How can you play the game of basketball without hoops, without goals, without keeping score?

The same goes for your health.

It’s fun playing the game, but, you will get bored if there is no score.

That’s like going on a diet and never weighing, it may work,

but how would you really know…

The question my clients always ask me is ‘how do I keep score of my health.’

I mean, there is not a health meter we can attach to our finger.

There is a measurement that comes in handy. It’s actually a great indicator of how healthy we are and how long we may live.

The best health score to keep is the size of your waist.

Science tells us that we live as long as our waist is small.

There are many reasons associated with this.

One has to do with our internal chemistry.

The more harmonized our internal chemistry, the less abdominal fat we will have.

Science tells us that the more abdominal fat we have the more likely we will eventually be diagnosed with a chronic disease.

Chronic diseases include cancer, diabetes, heart disease, strokes, Alzheimer’s, hormonal Disruption and even obesity.

These are the diseases that cut our lives short.

YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL SHOULD BE

THE CORRECT WAIST SIZE FOR YOUR HEIGHT

There have been numerous published studies that associate longevity of life with the size of your waist.

If you compile all of these studies together, a waist to height ratio can be determined to give you the best chance to live long and finish strong.

The research indicates that a woman should have a 45 percent waist to height ratio and a man should have a 48 percent waist to height ratio.

Below are examples of what you should be striving for when it comes to your ultimate health goals.

These measurements are to be taken at your belly button. Do not use a “Texas” measurement.

A Texas measurement is one taken by that ‘good ol’ boy’ with a drawl who says,

“I wear the same size pants I did in high school” as his belly jiggles over the unseen belt buckle he won at a local rodeo in 1977.

Let’s take a look at the IDEAL waist sizes!

WOMEN SHOULD STRIVE FOR A 45% WAIST TO HEIGHT RATIO

If you are 4’ 10” your ideal waist should be 26”

If you are 5’ 0” your ideal waist should be 27”

If you are 5’ 2” your ideal waist should be 28”

If you are 5’ 4” your ideal waist should be 29”

If you are 5’ 6” your ideal waist should be 30”

If you are 5’ 8” your ideal waist should be 31”

If you are 5’ 10” your ideal waist should be 32”

If you are 6’ 0” your ideal waist should be 33”

To be transparent, if you go and google the best measurement, you are going to find a hip to waist ratio.

For women, it is supposed to a .7. That’s what Marilyn Monroe had!

The numbers I have above are more realistic goals, especially for women in the ‘third act’ of their lives.

MEN SHOULD STRIVE FOR A 50% WAIST TO HEIGHT RATIO

If you are 5’ 0” your ideal waist should be 30”

If you are 5’ 2” your ideal waist should be 31”

If you are 5’ 4” your ideal waist should be 32”

If you are 5’ 6” your ideal waist should be 33”

If you are 5’ 8” your ideal waist should be 34”

If you are 5’ 10” your ideal waist should be 35”

If you are 6’ 0” your ideal waist should be 36”

If you are 6’ 2” your ideal waist should be 37”

If you are 6’ 4” your ideal waist should be 38”

Write your goals down!

Now you know what your waist should be, but that doesn’t necessarily need to be your immediate goal.

Your goal could be to knock off 1 inch from your waist at a time.

It is much easier to reach your goals when you place more attainable immediate goals.

When it comes to goals take smaller bites at first. It’s all about baby steps.

Since nearly all of us pay attention to weight more than our waist, make sure to place both goals in your GPS.

Hey, Siri, in six months

My Weight is ________

But More Importantly,

My Waist is ________

Now go write it on your mirror and tell your cleaning people not to touch it.

Ok, then tell yourself…

You have to place this goal out into the universe.

Please, text me these numbers ASAP.

I don’t mind…

Doc, I weigh…and want to weigh… in 3 or 6 months.

Also, include your waist and height measurements.

I know there are other issues besides weight.
